Introducing device name profiles with v5.4.1

Device42 will now suggest names for your servers, switches, firewalls or other devices with v5.4.1. All the changes in v5.4.1 are discussed below.

Device name profiles

create devices in bulk with pre-defined name profiles

You can now create a profile for device names and add new devices easily based on the profile. Just choose the prefix, and a number length (i.e. the number of digits in the numeric portion of the name) and you are good to go.

You can create one or more devices from a device profile. When you do this, you can also specify the device type, service level, customer, and asset # profile for the device(s).

This is available under Tools > Templates & Bulk Operations

**Update: The following feature has been depreciated.**
All available SNMP MIB files are now loaded by default. To clarify, this feature never enabled end user loading of custom MIB files. If you need a custom MIB loaded, or need further assistance, please reach out to [email protected]

Enhanced SNMP server discovery to get server info using Dell Open Manage MIBs

If you have Dell Open Manage MIBs installed on your linux or windows servers, you will now be able to get serial #, hardware model, and OS info from the SNMP discovery, if available. Also, we have added the capability to grab all mac addresses using SNMP.

Cosmetic Changes

  • Devices and Assets on the rack view page now show serial # and asset #.
  • Increased the character length for HDD RPM and hardware component name.

API Changes

asset_profile has been added to the device API call. Now you can assign the next available asset # based on asset # profile for a device.

Bug fixes

  • The History API was erroring out if any device was added via internal discovery methods. Now fixed.
  • Server SNMP discovery has better error handling if not able to connect to a server.
