Full rack connectivity with PDU outlets and network ports including drag and drop with v5.12.0

Data Center Management just got easier with full power and network connectivity from the rack view including drag and drop functionality for power outlets and network ports. These exciting additions and other enhancements in v5.12.0 are discussed below.

Rack elevations physical connections with drag and drop

From the rack layout page, you can go to Physical connections and visualize power and network connectivity from this page. You can optionally turn off either of the connections to see only power or only network cables. Also, in the edit mode, drag and drop is now available for PDU ports and network ports (from/to patch panel ports or switch ports).

Add new asset template right from rack layout page

You can now add most commonly used asset templates right from the rack layout page.

See all blades in the chassis from the chassis view/edit page

If the device is of type chassis, you will be able to see all the blades in the newly added blades tab. Blades are sorted by slot #. Each blade has a link to its device page and displays device name, serial #, asset #, slot # and hardware model.

Add new blades right from the chassis device page

You can now add blades to a chassis right from the chassis edit page by going to the blades tab and clicking on Add new blade. The hardware model for the blade device must exist beforehand. The list to select the hardware model starts populating as you start typing the hardware model name.

Add purchase/warranty info from the device, asset and/or circuit page

In the earlier versions, you had to associate warranty or purchase info from either the purchase menu or use the excel imports to do that. In v5.12, in addition to those options, we have added an option to associate purchase and/or warranty/contract info directly from the object page. That means you can see and add purchase records for buildings, rooms, racks, parts, circuits, devices and assets right from the edit page of those objects.

POODLE ssl vulnerability fix

We have disabled SSLv3 in lieu of security vulnerability POODLE.

Life cycle event actions in bulk

You can now bulk assign life cycle events to devices and assets right from the action menu.

Apply transferred devices, asset or part settings to all the objects to receive

Thanks to Ivan for the idea. We have added a button to apply the receipt date and room settings to all other objects that are in the transfer state. This way if all devices, assets or parts are received at same room at same time, you don’t have to fill in the date and room on every line.

Linode instance auto-discovery support

You can now auto-discover your Linode instances with cloud discovery.

Introducing category for better centralized password management

Based on user feedback, we have added category to passwords. You can now filter by category and this also becomes available in the APIs and excel import/export.

Building association with VRF groups

You can now associate VRF groups with buildings. This adds location based filters to VRF groups and any associated subnets.

New hardware model images

We have added 172 new images for hardware models. Available under Tools > Templates & Bulk Operations > Image files.

API changes

  • GET rack API call now includes available_u
  • GET rack by ID also includes total watts consumption (estimated or real time, based on module) for each PDU

Bug Fixes

  • Service profiles for UCS profile was not coming in correctly. Now fixed.
  • Asset with no names had extra ‘-‘ in front. Now fixed.
  • CDP discovery disabled if end IP is present. Running a network discovery on an IP range with CDP enabled was slowing things down quite a bit.
